Using Twitter Feeds For Job Notices

Your colleagues in the library world have turned to Twitter to send out notices of job openings. For immediacy, nothing beats having new notifications sent straight to your cell phone as SMS text messages. Of course, you can always go to the Twitter website and view them there. Here are the feeds we've noticed (links will work if you're a Twitter member & logged in). If you know of others not listed here, please send them along.

New to Twitter? Simply go to http://twitter.com and create an account. When you log in go to "Find People" at the top, and type in the names shown above and scroll through the list of results until you find the feed (or just throw the name and the word "twitter" into your favorite search engine) and you'll see the latest notices sent out, and you can sign up to follow them, with options for getting notices sent to your phone. Take the Employment Task Force Survey

In response to the current economic crisis, which has hit our profession hard here in the New York area, the SLA-New York Chapter's Employment Task Force has created a survey to find out how our members are doing, and what sort of support they are looking for when considering redirecting their careers within the special libraries profession.

If you are currently unemployed, or you consider yourself underemployed, or you even have a job but feel you're not using your skills to the fullest, please go to the link below to take the SLA-New York Chapter Employment and Skills Survey. This survey is open to current, past, and future SLA members.

The survey should only take about 15 minutes or less to fill out. Thanks
for your feedback and input. The survey will help the Employment Task
Force create new programs that will address your needs when it comes to

Last month thirty of your fellow Chapter members met to form the SLANY Employment Task Force--a group dedicated to address the concerns of our members who are facing challenges in the current job market, particularly those who are unemployed. A number of concerns and ideas were brought up--everything from the challenges of transitioning to a new role, to obtaining membership discounts to organizations of interest to information professionals, to success stories from members who are enjoying new jobs or have found their bliss in unexpected places.
